Our Varieties
CBA Captain PBR
At Chickpea Breeding Australia, we aim to expand the geographic reach of chickpea crops throughout Australia. The $30 million investment by NSW DPIRD and GRDC is dedicated to creating Desi and Kabuli chickpea varieties that perform well in new growing regions and established areas. CBA Captain PBR achieves this goal.
CBA Captain PBR
is an erect Desi chickpea variety, which was released in 2020. It has good plant height, good height to lowest pod and good lodging resistance resulting in exceptional harvestability. It has broad adaption to chickpea growing regions across the country. CBA Captain PBR
has a yellow- brown seed coat and angular seed shape.
CBA Spin PBR
CBA Spin PBR offers growers in northern NSW and southern QLD improved Phytophthora root rot resistance (PRR, caused by the pathogen Phytophthora medicaginis) compared to current commercial varieties. CBA Spin PBR has the highest NVT Phytophthora root rot (PRR) resistance rating (MSS [P-Provisional]) of all commercially available varieties. It is suited to areas where PRR is considered a production risk.
CBA Spin PBR
is mid flowering with mid to late maturity. CBA Spin PBR
flowers later than CBA Captain PBR
and PBA Drummond PBR
. It has a medium to tall plant height with very good height to the lowest pod and moderate lodging resistance providing excellent harvestability.
